Pulčín rock labyrinth

The largest rock town of the Moravian Carpathians — a maze of towers and gorges, and an unforgettable half-day hike.

The Pulčín–Hradisko national nature reserve hides the largest rock town of the Moravian Carpathians. Sandstone towers, gorges and boulder fields form a labyrinth threaded by a marked trail with viewpoints over the whole of Wallachia.

Start in the hamlet of Pulčín and follow the red trail — the loop over the rocks and the Hradisko summit makes a perfect half-day hike. In winter the rocks have a magic of their own: in freezing weeks the famous Pulčín icefalls grow here.

From the apartment it's a little over ten minutes by car to the hamlet of Pulčín, where you can park right at the trailhead. From there the marked path climbs steadily — the elevation gain isn't dramatic, but the ground is rocky and slippery after rain, so proper footwear genuinely pays off.

It's at its best early in the morning, when mist still sits in the gorges, and in autumn, when colour floods the forest around the towers. Winter gives the rocks an entirely different face: in the freezing weeks the famous Pulčín icefalls form here, drawing climbers of their own.

Allow a good half day for the loop and bring a snack — there is no refreshment among the rocks themselves. If the rock scenery wins you over, save Čertovy skály or a Javorníky ridge walk for the next day.
