Lačnov crocus meadows

In early spring the meadows near Lačnov bloom with thousands of white and violet crocuses — a small miracle that draws photographers from across the country.

At the turn of March and April, the meadows above neighbouring Lačnov turn into a white-and-violet carpet as thousands of white crocuses bloom — a rare protected flower that survives here thanks to centuries of gentle farming.

The bloom lasts only a few weeks and draws photographers and botanists from across the country. Come on a weekday morning when the meadows are quietest — and please keep to the marked paths, the crocuses are strictly protected.

The meadows above Lačnov are a few minutes by car from Horní Lideč, or a pleasant morning walk. The bloom is short and slightly different every year — it follows the weather, not the calendar — so it's worth asking how things look before you set out. We're happy to check for you.

The white crocus is strictly protected, and these meadows survive only thanks to centuries of gentle farming. Please stay on the marked paths, don't pick the flowers, and keep dogs on a lead — one careless afternoon can undo decades of work.

Photographers should arrive right at first light, when the light is soft and dew still lies on the grass. Afternoons at peak bloom get busy, especially at weekends. On the way back you can take in the nearby Lačnov rocks.
